Faithless - I still enjoy listening…
In 1996 I usually listend to the regional radio station SWF3 which later transformed into SWR3 as it’s named today. In the 90s it was a not-so-mainstreamish station but today it’s just another format radio not worth listening - imho.
In 1994 SWF3 started a yearly multi-day concert event called “New Pop Festival” bringing upcoming groups to southwestern germany. In the following years the festival is the place for many musicians to get a reputation in Germany. If I remember correctly it was a real career boost for not only Chumbawamba (‘94), Alanis Morissette (‘95), The Fugees and the british band Faithless (both in ‘96).
Faithless’ tracks Insomina and Salva Mea are nice 1990s pop songs influenced by techno music with aweseome “rapped” lyrics by Maxi Jazz. Several albums and singles joined the charts and dancefloors but some songs didn’t get the mainstream popularity.
One of these songs is “Drifting Away” which appeared on their first album called “Reference” so why not listen on youtube:

The classica intro is ”L’altra notte in fondo al mare” out of Arrigo Boito’s Mefistofele opera and was performed by Penny Shaw. According to google Shaw moved later to Australia still performing classical music. I couln’t find a full recording of Penny Show’s interpretation so I can only link to one by Maria Callas:

have a nice weekend everyone.
